As part of the Maxi Development Scheme 2022, we had to raise money for charity. I chose to raise money by completing the Inflatable 5K. My chosen charity was The Disasters Emergency Committee, this was related to the Ukrainian War/Disaster
I was originally paired with a fellow colleague of mine from my depot, however due to personal issues he left the business, and I became a one man team. Prior to going it on my own we had decided to complete the Inflatable 5K in Stratford upon Avon, I chose to stick with this idea. This was something that I felt was going to be fun, however still challenging for an unfit and untrained person like myself. This involves a course of inflatable obstacles and grass area between which is 2.5K long – I, alongside two friends completed two laps of this course to complete 5K. I completed this in 1hr 22mins, which I was quite proud of and was happy with my end result.
The charity I chose was Disasters Emergency Committee. This choice was based on the issues that had just started in Ukraine. I wanted to do my bit to support all the people who were affected by this war, these people are innocent, and I wanted to do what I could to make their lives a little easier and more comfortable. My donations would be used in a range of ways, including medical, housing, mental support, food, clothing and much more. These are all important things which I knew were needed greatly by the Ukrainian people.
My original target was £400 on my GoFundMe Page. I was very happy when I hit this target and went over, therefore I raised it to £1000. My total now is £714, this I think is a great achievement considering I was working on this on my own. This amount was raised across 27 donations!
