At Maxi Haulage we operate some of the highest permissible vehicles on the UK road network we felt it imperative that we view bridge strikes as a fundamental risk to our operation.
With this in mind, Maxi haulage operates a regular programme of bridge strike prevention initiatives from Managing directors to warehouse operatives and of course our drivers. Every member off our team can each play their part at every stage of the delivery chain to ensure that our vehicles, our people, and the general public are protected from harm.
Our operational staff undergo an annual safety briefing on how their input can really make a difference, part of which includes a hands-on demonstration of a vehicle and what is expected of our drivers. Our drivers undergo annual toolbox talks and online training to maintain our silver accreditation with the esteemed Freight Operator Recognition Scheme. Each day they complete a comprehensive daily inspection sheet that includes recording details of trailer heights.
When we adopt a new customer or new delivery location the area is risk assessed and any low bridges in the area are recorded as well as publishing regular updates from Network Rail on the most problematic bridges in the UK.
But of course, training is only part of the story, our senior managers conduct regular spot checks on vehicles entering and leaving the depot to ensure that all relevant paperwork has been completed and safety signage is correctly displayed.
Safety in all its guises is a team effort and we can proudly say that as a team we are focused on keeping everyone safe and continuing to provide excellent service to our customers.
